The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing  databaseIf you tried to restore the backup and you receive following error :

system.data.sqlclient.sqlerror :the backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing  database.

Solution:

Using SQL Server Management Studio Express –

 you need to create an empty database first. Right click on “Databases” then go 'Task' after choose “Restore” option  as shown below.

                                                  

After 'select' Database then show below .

Select radio button  'from device' and select the path of backup file after choose backup file then show below screen .                                                                                                                                           

 you select the checkbox against file name added in the lower pane. Then click on 'Option' in the left side corner  of the window show in below scree.                                                                                    

The select the checkbox labeled as 'Overwrite the existing database' option. you see in screenshot there are 4 checkbox options available. Then click OK and database will be restored.
